Elizabeth, Canada

This experience was enriching in so many levels. I learned a lot about indigenous issues in different regions, the Declaration on the rights of Indigenous People, and the resilience of these people to ensure that their rights are respected.

I participated as a volunteer interpreter at the UNPFII in New York City. I considered it both an honour and a privilege to provide a voice to the indigenous delegates from Latin America and from around the world. This experience was enriching in so many levels. I learned a lot about indigenous issues in different regions, the Declaration on the rights of Indigenous People, and the resilience of these people to ensure that their rights are respected. On a professional level, interpreting in the state of the art UN booths and facilities was a pure pleasure. Thank-you DOCIP for allowing me to participate!
