SEASON'S GREETING

Dear friend of Docip,

Welcome to our last weekly newsletter of 2021. This year was not exactly what we expected. No "building back better" after Covid-19 and no brilliant breakthrough in New York or Glasgow. Instead, we had another year of uncertainty, virtual meetings and ineffective hybrid conferences.

But there was also good news coming from all directions: an indigenous people regained their land rights, a river gained human rights, a country adopted UNDRIP, indigenous women and men were elected to high office, indigenous languages were recognized, and indigenous knowledge replaced the colonial legacy.

The most important news from our 2021 summary is that Indigenous Peoples, despite physical distance and technological challenges, continue to be stronger, more united, and more committed to continuing their fight for Indigenous Peoples' rights, and they are increasingly recognized as important actors in the solution of humanity's most pressing problems.

For our Team at Docip, 2021 was also a special challenge, as we saw two of our teammates embark on new shores. Wishing them well in their future endeavors, we are committed to finding capable replacements. The lack of physical team meetings and exchanges with our indigenous partners and friends has been difficult, but we continue to do our best to pursue our work and fulfill the mission of Docip.

However, our greatest wish for 2022 is to meet you all again in person, wherever that may be. Until then, rest assured that we will continue to stand with you, using our knowledge and acquiring new skills to continue to support Indigenous Peoples, providing them with the tools to fight for their rights.

That said, there are still a few hours left to tell us what tools you need in the survey for our 2021 – 2025 strategic plan – please complete the survey and let us know what you need!

The Docip office will be closed between 24 December 2021 and 2 January 2022. We will continue to post important messages and reminders on our Facebook page and our Twitter account. Please direct any urgent messages to secretariat(at)docip.org.
