Human Rights Council : New Bureau and Membership

On 19 June 2009, at the Organizational session for its fourth cycle, the Human Rights Council elected the new President and the Bureau for the third cycle. H.E. Mr. Alex Van Meeuwen (Belgium) was elected as President of the Human Rights Council by acclamation.

The 4 elected vice-presidents are:

  • H.E. Mr. Hisham Badr (Egypt)
  • H.E. Mr. Andrej Logar (Slovenia)
  • H.E. Mr. Dyan T. Djani (Indonesia)
  • H.E. Mr. M. Carlos Portales (Chile)

After the election of officers, the Council turned to the consideration of the annual programme of work for the fourth cycle of the Council, as well as the provisional calendar of meetings for the years 2009 and 2010. These documents are available on the main page of the HRC Extranet.
