Location: About 15 minutes from the UN by bus and then a 10-minute walk. Take the bus "V" (direction Versoix) at the railway station "Gare Cornavin" or at "Place des Nations" or opposite the CICR (Red Cross). Get off at the bus stop "Valavran" (ask the driver). Walk about 150 meters in the direction taken by the bus and then turn left into the road "chemin William Rappard". Go to the end of the road, following the signs "Mandat International". The reception is behind the small forest.

Prices: There is accommodation for 40 people. 32 places in rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds, and 6 places in a dormitory. Whether a representative shares a room or not depends on how many people are staying at Mandat International. There is also a housing network, which is activated when the accommodation center is full.

In Geneva, you can use tramway and buses from the "Transports Publics Genevois" (TPG) easily. They provide a good coverage area of the city. If you need a ride before of after tram and buses schedules, you can book a "taxibus".

Taxibus:

For trips at night from or to the railway station "Cornavin" or the airport "Cointrin", from or to any place in Geneva.

Important! This service only runs outside the Geneva Public Transportation (Transports Publics Genevois - TPG) service hours. That is, for example, for flights leaving from the Geneva-Cointrin airport before 6.45am.

Reservations: 022 331 41 33 stating that you want a taxibus and not a normal taxi. Reserve before 11.30 pm on the previous day, for morning departure. Reserve anytime for arrival after midnight.

PLEASE NOTE: Train and bus tickets must be taken from the ticket machine (available at each station/bus stop). The ticket machine do not give change back.

Reduced-fare tickets are only for people under age 16 or with a CFF reduced-fare pass.

You can buy the pass at the "TPG" Transports Publics Genevois desk in the Cornavin railway station. You will need an ID photo to have your pass made. Opening hours of the desk: Monday to Friday: 7am-7pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Closed on Sunday.

 

How to buy a bus ticket:

Almost all bus stops have a ticket machine. Always carry enough coins with you since the ticket machines do not give change back. Push the button corresponding to the ticket you want and then put the money in. The ticket will be printed automatically. For a standard trip, choose the button under the column called A (TOUT GENEVE Zones 11, 12, 15, 16 et 17). This is a pass for one hour, with as many connections as you want. For a shorter trip, choose the button "Saut de puce/Short trip" that is valid for 3 bus stops with neither a connection nor a trip back.

Keep the ticket until you get off the bus! If you are caught without a ticket you have to pay a CHF 80.- / CHF 100.- fine on the spot!

If you plan to take the bus often, you can purchase a card cart@bonus for CHF 20.-, 30.-, or 50.- (similar to a telephone card), at the railway station "Cornavin" TPG Office.

How to use the card:

Before entering the bus, push the button corresponding to the ticket you want and put the card into the machine to be debited for that amount. You will receive a ticket. Keep the ticket until the end of your ride. You can buy these cards at the TPG desk in the Cornavin railway station or at some kiosks.

 

• Different Trips:

 From the airport "Cointrin" to the Central Railway Station "Cornavin":

Take the train or bus No 10 direction "Onex Cité", until “22 Cantons” station. The first bus, from Monday to Friday is at 5.05am. On average the bus runs every 8 minutes. The last bus is at 00.31am (past midnight). On Saturday from 5.37am to 00.48am (past midnight) and on Sunday from 5.42 am to 00.48am. The bus runs the week end on average every 14 minutes. You can also take the train, the first one is at 5..12 am. On average the train runs every 15 minutes. The last train is at 00.48am (past midnight)

 

 From the railway station "Cornavin" to the airport "Cointrin":

Take the train or bus No 10 direction "Aéroport". The first bus, from Monday to Friday is at 4.43am and the last one at 00.26 am (past midnight). On Saturday, the first bus runs at 5.16am and on Sunday at 5.20am until 00.25am (pas midnight). On average the bus runs every 8 minutes. The first train is at 5.17 am, on average it runs every 15 minutes.

 

 From the airport to the UN:

You can also take the bus No 28 direction "Jardin Botanique". Get off at the stop "Appia" or "Nations". The trip takes about 15 minutes to the UN. The first bus, from Monday to Friday, is at 5.54am. On average the bus runs every 20 minutes. The last bus is at 00.03am (past midnight). On Saturday, the first bus is at 6:12am and the last at 00.03am (past midnight), one bus every 20 minutes. On Sunday, the first bus is at 6.04am, one every 40 minutes, the last one at 00.03am (past midnight).

 

 From the UN to the airport:

Take the bus No 5 direction "Palexpo-Aéroport" at the stop "Nations". The trip takes about 15minutes. The first buses depart at 5.14am, 5.34am and 5.49am. After the bus runs every 15 min from Monday to Friday with the last leaving at 00.21am (past midnight). On Saturday, the first bus is at 5.54am the next at 6.09 am, one every 15 minutes until 00.22am (pas midnight). On Sunday, the first bus leaves at 6.31 am, one every 20 minutes until 00.20am (past midnight).

You can also take the bus No 28 direction "Parfumerie" at the stop "Appia" or "Nations". Get off at the stop "Aéroport". The first bus departs from "Nations" at 5.28am, the next at 05.58am, Monday to Friday, one every 15 minutes, with the last leaving at 11.57pm. On Saturday, the first bus is at 5.58am, one every 20 minutes until 11.57. On Sunday, the first bus leaves at 5.58am, one every 40 minutes until 11.57pm.

 

 Between the centre of Geneva and the Central Railway Station "Cornavin":

Different buses are available for this trip (5, 8, etc.) Nevertheless, if you have 20 minutes, it is a nice walk.

 

 Bus From Central Railway Station "Cornavin" to the UN:

You can take bus N° 5, N° 8, F or V. The trip takes about 10 minutes, but if you have 20 minutes free, you can make a nice walk.

 Bus From the UN to the Central Railway Station "Cornavin":

You can take bus No 5, No 8, F, V. The trip takes about 10 minutes, but if you have 20 minutes free, you can make a nice walk.

Bus V (direction "Gare Cornavin") departing from "Appia" at 6.13 am and on average every 30 min. to 00.05am (past midnight). On Saturday the first bus is at 7.24 am (one every 60 min.) and the last at 00.05 am (past midnight). On Sunday the first bus departs at 7.24 am (one every 60 min.) and the last at 00.05 am (past midnight).

Bus F, departing from "Nations" (direction Cornavin) runs Monday to Friday from 5.44am  to 11.49pm, Saturday from 6.31am to 11.47pm, and Sunday from 6.29am to 11.47pm.

Tramway 13, direction "Nations", everyday first departs at 5.13am, then every 6 minutes. The route takes 8 minutes and the last depart is at 00.34am (past midnight). On Saturday the tramway runs between 5.21am and 2.08am (past midnight), and on Sunday between 5.27am and 00.33am (past midnight).

Tramway 15, direction "Nations" first departs at 5.59 am Monday to Friday and runs until 00.25 am (past midnight). On Saturday the tramway runs between 6.21am and 00.26am and on Sunday between 6.23 am and 00.25am (past midnight).

 

 Plainpalais to the UN:

Tramway 13 or 15, direction "Nations", is going through "Cornavin".

Tramway 13 first departs at 5.06am Monday to Friday (on average every 6 minutes) and the last departs at 00.27 am (past midnight) except on Friday, the last one is at 2.10am (past midnight). On Saturday trams depart between 5.14 am (it runs on average every 11 minutes) and 2.10 am (past midnight), and Sunday between 5.20 am and 00.26 (after midnight), one every 15 minutes.

Tramway 15 first departs at 5.52 am Monday to Friday (it runs on average every 11 minutes) and the last departs at 00.18 am (past midnight), except on Friday: 2.08am (past midnight) . On Saturday, trams depart between 5.14 am and 2.08 am (after midnight), and on Sunday between 6.16 am and 00.18am (past midnight), one every 15 minutes.

 

 UN to Plainpalais:

Tram 13, direction "Palettes" first departs from "Nations" at 5.32 am on Monday to Friday, it runs every 11 minutes and the last departs at 00.21 am (past midnight) and on Friday at 2.21am (past midnight). On Saturday, tramways depart from 5.42am and 2.21am (after midnight) and on Sunday between 5.41 am and 00.44 am (past midnight) (runs every 15 minutes).

Tram 15, direction "Palettes" first departs from "Nations" at 5.26 am on Monday to Friday and runs 11 minutes until 00.29 am (past midnight) . On Saturday, the tram departs at 5.36 am and runs every 15 minutes until 00.29 am (after midnight) and on Sunday from 5.49 am to 00.36 am (after midnight).

 

From Plainpalais to the Station Cornavin:

Tramway 14, direction "Meyrin-Gravière" first departs at 4.41 am, the next one at 4.53 am, it runs every 5 minutes from Monday to Friday until 00.00am. On Saturday from 5.00am to 00.00am (every 15 minutes) and on Sunday from 4.59am to 11.58 pm.

 

 From the Station Cornavin to Plainpalais:

Tramway 14, direction "Augustins/Bachet-de-Pesay" first depart at 5.57 am, it runs every 12 minutes from Monday to Friday until 11.53 pm. On Saturday, the tramway departs at 5.58 am and runs every 15 minutes until 2.40am (past midnight)  and on Sunday from 5.54am to 00.00am.

 

From the UN to the World Council of Churches (WCC):

Take bus No 5, direction "Palexpo" or bus No 28 direction "Hôpital-La Tour", or bus F direction "Ferney ou Gex" to the stop "Crêts-de-Morillon". Or a short walk.

 

 From the UN to the doCip:

Bus No 22 direction "Tours-de-Carouge". Take the bus at the stop "Nations". From Monday to Friday there is a bus every 20 minutes. The first bus departs at 5.30 am and the last at 00.19 am (past midnight).

Bus No 14 direction “Tours-de-Carouge”. Take the bus at “Nations” stop and get off at “Mervelet” stop (6 stops). The doCip is 5 minutes walk from the bus stop on the way up the Avenue de Trembley, in the white building "Ecole de Commerce André Chavannes".

 

 From the doCip to the UN:

Bus No 22 direction "Nations". Take the bus stop "Mervelet". Get off at the stop "Nations" (5th stop).

 

 From Mandat International to the UN:

A shuttle leaves every morning at 8.30am (if there are many people there will be two shuttles: 8.15am and 8.45am) and returns from the UN every evening around 6.30 pm. Information is available at reception desks at hotels.

Otherwise, take the bus V (bus stop "Valavran") to “Cornavin” and get off at "Appia" bus stop. From Monday to Friday, the first bus leaves at 6.02am. On Saturday, the first one leaves at 6.13 am, and on Sunday at 7.13 am. This bus doesn't run very often, so it can be useful to look at the timetable.

 

 From the UN to Mandat International:

For the return, at the shuttle place, you can take the bus V, direction "C.S. La Becassière" and get off at "Valavran" bus stop. From Monday to Sunday, the last bus from the Railway Station is at 11.50 pm and from the UN at 11.58 pm. It takes about 10 minutes walking from the bus stop to Mandat International. This bus doesn't run very often, so it can be useful to look at the timetable.

Mouettes genevoises: to cross the lake and go on tours of parks. You can use your bus tickets to takes the "Mouettes" boat. From the bus station, Place Dorcière, you can take a coach for excursion outside of Geneva. Information available at reception desks in hotels.

 

Eating in restaurants is expensive in Geneva, even for local people. But there are a few restaurants that provide some less expensive meals.

Phones

Public phones can be found in most public places in Geneva. Phones that only accept cards are becoming more frequent. Phone cards can be bought in post offices, as well as at newsagents ("tabac et journaux").

From the telephone booth, the connection is generally excellent but rather expensive. If you have to call, give preference to off-peak hours (every day from 6am to 8am, from 5pm to 7pm and from 9pm to 11pm, as well as all day on Saturday and Sunday): it is half the normal price. It is even better to call during night time (from 11pm to 6am): it is a quarter of the normal price.

You can buy the phone cards at the "Naville kiosk" at the UN door 6 and 40. The phone booths are nearly everywhere in the Palais des Nations.

It is necessary to compose the dialling code of the canton you are calling (022 in Geneva), even if the call is within the same canton.
