Several options are possible: You can make « simple » searches (by exploiting only one field):
- In the integral (full) text of the document
- By author (persons or organizations)
- By conference
- By organization (which includes indigenous and international -including UN- organizations as well as governments
- By subject
In the simple search form (standard view), first choose the search index - plain text, author, conference or subject, then use "some" for results matching any of your keywords, or "all" for results that match all your keywords. Enter the keyword(s) and click on "Begin Search". It is not necessary to write the entire term you’re looking for. Thanks to truncation (sign "*" or asterisk) it is possible to find documents, for example on pygmees, by typing pygm*. Similarly, il you are searching for statements containing an exact expression, you can use quotation marks (“”). For exemple, to find documents with the expression “Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples", you can written it into quotation marks.
You may make more precise searches by combining words or fields. Advanced search can be chosen and its parameters defined by clicking on « Preferences ». If you choose a multi field search, you may use the « boolean » operators (AND, OR, AND NOT) to combine the fields.
-
AND specifies the search. Example : BELKACEM in "Author" AND Permanent forum|2007 in "Conferences" precisely allow to access to the statements of Mr Lounès during the 2007 Permanent Forum.
- OR broadens the search. Example : Women in "Subjects" OR Water in another "Subjects" field give access to documents that cover these two themes indistinctly
- AND NOT excludes an element from the search. Example : a request with Simat in the "Author" AND NOT Permanent forum|2007 in the "Conferences" field will find statements of Mary Simat in various conferences with the exception of the 2007 Permanent Forum.
