Missions
DoCip's Documentation Center has a two-fold mission:
- To make documents and information available
- To conserve them
Our documents are in open access, whether online or on our premises. The whole of our online documents are downloadable for free, subject to respect copyright. We answer enquiries and make researches for indigenous activists, researchers and the public in general. Requests can be adressed filling this form or by phone
We conserve indigenous documents and make sure that they remain in good conditions, within the limits of our possibilities: this is our contribution to preserving indigenous memory.
Our collections
Digital documents
We manage a database of digital documents, mainly composed of thousands of statements submitted by indigenous peoples' representatives, international organizations and governments, which we receive directly or we collect during the various Conferences. A hard copy of conference documents is also conserved at doCip. In addition, we realize a monitoring and collection of documents regarding IPs and produced by the Treaty Bodies (among which the CERD) and organisations such as WIPO, ILO, etc.
We also produced four CD-ROMs and a DVD. The first one contains documentation on the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations (WGIP), from 1982 to 2000. The second CD-ROM contains documentation on the Working Group on the UN draft Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, from 1995 to 2004. The 3rd follows the 1st (WGIP 2001-2006). The DVD contains the statements of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (2002 -2008). It contains also the statements of the Open-ended working group on a Permanent Forum (1999-2000). The last CD is about the UNDRIP. It includes a Comparison Chart on 1994, 2006 and 2007 versions of the Declaration. Information and conditions on how to obtain these CD-ROMs and the DVD are available here.
Physical collections
We have 79 specialized paper periodicals, some of which are not easy to find in other Documentation Centres. 31 of these periodicals also offer an electronic version and are therefore accessible online. A database allow you to search informations through the periodicals digitized tables of contents.
We also have a number of books (circa 1000 titles), most of which are specialized in indigenous issues. Regional and thematic folders (for instance on biodiversity) group together miscellaneous documents on indigenous peoples.
Online Websites Catalogue on Indigenous Issues
This Catalogue aims at facilitating accessibility of indigenous peoples' websites, or of websites of organisations that publish documents regarding their issues at international level. More than 450 websites are currently listed.
Multimédia Documents
We expect to widen our multimedia collection, which is currently composed of about 250 CD-ROMs, DVDs and videotapes, produced mainly by indigenous organisations and on issues regarding IPs.
